Office to Drinks in Yellow

Blouse - American Vintage (similar) // Blazer - French Connection // Skirt - Topshop

I made it to work in yellow! I'd forgotten about this lovely silk blouse. We had an office outing last Friday and I was desperate to find something that would work in the office and at the bar (we actually went to dinner and a comedy club, but you know what I mean). I needed an outfit that looked like I was going on a sophisticated night-out. After going through the 'I have nothing to wear' phase, I found my yellow blouse.

It felt like more play than work so I threw a blazer at the problem and I think it worked.

We went to the 99 comedy club in Leicester Square. Laughed so hard my face hurt. I hope you had a nice Friday night!

And On To Business

Blazer - French Connection // Trousers - United Colors of Benetton // Top - Cyrillus

Back when the sun was out, I paired my ditzy floral blouse with an all-black trouser suit. I would live to wear a printed suit combo. But I think there’s a time and a place for head-to-toe patterns and the office isn't one of them. So this is how I have to get my prints fix.

I am so happy I found these Benetton trousers. My black H&M skinny jeans which I’d been passing off as trousers ripped a few weeks ago – I was wearing them at least twice a week. My new trousers are comfortable, easy to wash and iron! They don’t crease that easily which is perfect for the lazier professional.

Back to work

Back to work and back to blogging. Working on new posts and finding a direction for blog. I didn’t think that having a full time job and blogging would be so hard but I have to stick with it because I really enjoy it.

New post tomorrow.

Thanks for reading!

Wearing A Statement Scarf

Dress - French Connection (seen here) // Scarf - Old

You have the statement necklace but what about wearing a statement scarf in the office? Eye catching jewellery doesn't really work in the office as I learnt here, so I tried making an outfit that was all about my big orange scarf.

What's great about wearing a statement scarf you ask? EVERYTHING. The scarf is light weight but made from silk and wool so it keeps you warm in the office. It's nice and large so when the aircon is turned on and the office starts to feel like Siberia, I wrap myself up. It's not as restrictive as wearing a blazer. You're free to move but the a scarf looks nicer than a slanket (Slanket: a "gigantic fleece blanket with sleeves").

I love the contrast between my navy dress and the orange scarf. It was handed down from my mum. She bought it in the 80's from a boutique in Paris during their closing down sale (bargain hunting runs in the blood). I haven't found a square scarf as large and luxurious as this one but I'm on the look out!

Wanted This June

Skirts - & Other Stories // Yellow blouse - Hobbs // Pink  blouse - Dorothy Perkins // Silk blouse - Cyrillus

After returning what I thought to be the black skirt I've been searching for, I went straight back to window googling and found two possible replacements. I need to get them in a changing room this weekend!

This month I'm also craving more simple blouses/tops which can be disguised as blouses. I was never a huge fan of Dorothy Perkins but Iv'e been noticing that they have good smart casual pieces. Most are less than 20 pounds. Good quality, even better price.

But you know what I really want this June? The. SUN.

Hope you have a lovely weekend!

Silk Blouse

Blouse - Jigsaw // Skirt - Warehouse // Shoes - Clarks

This is the first time I've worn an a-line skirt. I normally prefer flowy skaters so I'll need to get used to this. I can't bend down as ealisy as I used to.

Now about the blouse. I got this during the winter sales. It's made of softest silk I've ever felt which means it's extremely delicate and hard to wash (I have to do it by hand). I'm so paranoid about stains that I actually took off my blouse during lunch to make sure nothing fell on it. Don't worry I was wearing a top underneath.

And now onto the weather. We're in May and the weather is so rubbish! The British climate is famoulsy bad but come on. June is just around the corner and I'm still wearing my woolly coat.

The Skirt

This is a story filled with woe, great expectations and shattered dreams. I thought I had found the staple skirt of my dreams. I've been looking for a structured black skirt to wear to work ever since I decided that my Topshop skater skirt was more casual than smart. It was kind of ruining my 'professional-ness'. So after this fashion epiphany, I searched frantically for a skirt with more structure and a slight bounce.

AND I found this beauty on the Warehouse website. It was 20 pounds down from 40 something. I might have loved the bargain more than the skirt. But when I tried it on at home something just wasn't right. I wasn't crazy about it. Have you ever spent a long time trying something on, looking in the mirror and attempting to justify a purchase? 'It's not quite right but...'//'maybe if I wore it like this...'// 'I wish it looked more like this...'.

But I finally admitted that the skirt hit me in all the wrong places. It sat on my hips and made them seem wider. Not a good look. It's ok to buy something and shorten the hem but I was dreaming about totally changing to style of the skirt. So I sent it back. It's a shame because it really was cute.

The skirt search continues...
